The assault ram is available to the following armies:
Codex: Space Marines
Codex: Dark Angels
Codex: Black Templars
Codex: Space Wolves
I apologize for any confusion or consternation this might have caused.
As for if the book is worth the cost...
I would give that a resounding yes.
Not only does it have a very cool alternate Codex marine list, but it also include a plethora of special characters.
The list includes some very cool options:
- Tactical Marines with Siege Shields (Think marine size tower shields.) that make them 'arder than terminators against non AP 1,2, or 3 weapons.
- The ability to buy three siege or ironclad dreadnoughts as a Troops choice
- The afore mentioned siege ram
- Predator, Whirlwind, and Vindicator squadrons
- Three new Land Raider variants (one of which is almost impossible to kill with anything short of a railgun)
You give up a whole lot of options from your core list, and have a major drawback of a special rule so the list is still balanced even with the above goodies.
