Flyers compedium: more detsils

My sources say this will be a 70 page "compendium".
It will have updated 6th edition rules for flyers:
Stormraven (now available to space marines and BT)
Storm Talon
Ork Bomba / dakka jet / burna bomba
Valkyrie / vendetta
Razorwing & Voide Raven
Night Scythe / doom scythe
also dog fighting rules from crusade of fire and a new flyers scenario.
I'm told this book will be a range item and not a limited release.

This is not as exciting as people may think. I saw the advert for the book at a local store; It contains only rules for fliers still on sale or with a codex entry (the Dark Eldar bomber is in), some fliers have their rules updated to 6th edition (whatever this means exactly). The only thing actually new is, that the Stormraven is now available to Codex Space Marines and Black Templars as well. Also you will find the flier rules from Crusade of Fire and new missions. The book will be on sale (no pre-order) from 16th of February, is direct only (so not from your FLGS), english language only and will not be limited stock.Natfka

Citadel Finecast... not forever?

Starfarer suggests that GW will go pretty much 100% plastic. They are presenting (or getting together the presentation) that FineCAST was only ever a stop gap, and that plastic is the real future.....

Plastic may well be the future, but not if its all angular CAD sculpted soul-less crap, with increasingly less detail..... that's not the future, I can buy that kind of cartoony crap now from PP!

Plastic is my medium of choice, so I applaud a move to all plastic.

This all plastic rumour shouldn't be attributed to me, I'm just passing on what I've heard.

After the death of THQ, Rayph Beisner, one of the concept artists of Vigil Games, he is also working on Darksiders 2, and now on the Elder Scrolls Online, published a lot of  concept art of the Dark Milenium Online (DMO).

Death from the Skies - new expansion?

A new 40k supplement book will be released on 16th February:
"Death from the Skies" (26€, mail order only, chance of being in English only).
More when I know more. But it certainly sounds like a flyer supplement.

We are talking about a book a bit cheaper than Planetstrike (maybe £20.00 or so), so the book is thin and not hardcover like SOM.

BTW not the first time, that model releases from second half of the month were kept secret from WD and traders, so I wouldn't completely rule out some flyers (e.g. the 4 rumoured ones) being released, say, 23rd February, although I am just guessing. Remember the trench box?

“Scripting is a different beast to prose, but that’s not much of an issue, because I did a lot of screenwriting on my writing degree, and a good idea is a good idea (same with bad ideas…) no matter how you write it down on the page. The main issue we’re all having is essentially time.
Since this is all done in our spare time, it’s a struggle to keep pace, sometimes. It takes me almost a year to write a novel, which is pretty slow for professional novelists in the grand scheme of things, but there’s been a recent phase of getting everything moving forward in the last few months. Different iterations of the script; adding resources, and so on.
To tell you the truth, I did the first draft of the script without even really talking to Erasmus, and it was a disaster. Imagine 40 minutes of fairly plain, direct battlefield stuff. I’d never make a novel that bland and combatty (that’s not a word, but shut up) but I was running under the assumption that’s what we needed to aim for here. I hated it, but sent it to Erasmus anyway. He hated it, and sent it back. That’s when we first talked.
Since then, everything’s been awesome. It changed my entire outlook on the project.”

Imperial Armour 1: SE



The Conqueror got bumped back to an Autocannon small blast, the SalamAnder Command is largely the same but can reduce enemy cover saves instead of its previous ability. The Rapier and Sabers didn't change.

The Hades got hit...*very* hard. It was controversial before, powerful but very prone to whiffing. Now it's weapon has been reduced in strength (fine really) but the "blast" aspect is now "small" and only counts for what units it hits, as it gets 1 hit on any vehicle/building and only D3 hits against anything else (regardless of how many the blast is touching), because instead of having a special attack it performs a Ram with some special rules.That would all be fine, whatever, but the big thing is that it no longer displaces units, and, if it fails to kill its target it... mishaps with a huge penalty on the mishap chart, and whatever happens to the drill also happens to the follow-up unit. On top of that it is now an Elites choice with an attached Vets squad that has fewer options (and is no longer scoring due to being an Elites unit).

Now, it got cheaper, but it's really got no purpose or use being so dangerous to itself and the follow up unit when used to attack an enemy unit on entry, and is rather expensive as a Deep Strike enabler for a non-scoring watered down Veteran or very expensive Engineer unit.


The Centaur now takes up FA slots in a codex: IG army

The Heavy Mortar lost the Accurate Bombardment special rule.

The destroyer tank hunter got the same gun as the Rapier (so basically a TL lascannon with the Ordnance but no blast rule) that has a longer range. Still very expensive for what it does, though a bit better than some previous incarnations.

Quad Launcher lost the "Slow Fire" rule as well, I'm wondering if those just didn't get copy-pasted correctly.

The Centaur lost its "Hull Mounted" special rule.   They're now no longer a dedicated transport, they're a squadron FA unit except for DKoK armies. They lost their ability to mount a weapon from the squad as well.

I also found a mistake (I think) regarding the Hades Drill. The cost they printed is the Drill + the veteran squad together. It then states that I can replace the assault squad for a DKOK engineer squad for an additional XX points....where XX = the cost of the entire Engineer squad. In other words, if I was take this literally, then the DKOK will have to pay for cost for the Drill + the Veteran squad + the Engineer squad that replaces it! I think its a misprint IMO.
 

I emailed FW about my questions and they responded with this:

1. The standard Heavy Mortar does not have the 'Accurate Bombardment' special rule but this may re-appear for the DKK Specific version when we update their army list.
2. The 'Hull Mounted Weapon' option was removed from the Centaur as the model is not supplied with such a weapon.
3. The Hades Drill is not available separately from the squad it comes with, so the point cost for both normal IG and DKK is accurate as stated in the book.

Can anyone tell me if the Quad Launchers are still Elite slots?
Heavy Support now except for DKoK Siege Regiment lists.

no, but they did integrate them in as an option in the unit profile (with a reduced points cost vs. Storm Eagles from the IG codex), allowing you to choose Storm Eagle, Sky Eagle, or ccore Missiles, essentially clarifying their status (i.e. that the option to use the Manticore missile was not effectively removed by the IG codex).

Sure thing, but my recollection from IA:A was that only the two newer missile types were included (Storm Eagle and Sky Eagle), but that Manticore Missiles were essentially made "rules obsolete" (though now returned in IA:A2nd).

The Manticore is also still allowed to take its old Manticore Missiles too, which is a 7" blast despite the vehicle being marked for use in regular games of 40K. To my knowledge that makes it the only thing approved for regular games that uses the 7" blast. I think FW needs to be emailed about that one personally. 

The Vanquisher used to be great. 2d6+8 Armour Pen, 96" range, Co-Axial weapon to make it super-consistent at short-range, and it could fire regular HE rounds when it wasn't killing tanks.

Hades, generally the same. Additional rules for ram attacks with bonus invuln save during ramming (pretty nasty)

Heavy mortar is now the just the griffon. No additional shells

Thudd gun has the shell shock rule with penalties to pinning tests

- Atlas and Engineseer now are Elite Choices
- Team them up and the engineseer gets a re-roll to his repairs
- Leman Russ troop options are divided into 2 - Siege tank squadron includes Thunderer, Demolisher, Executioner and Punisher. All other variants form part of the battle tank squadron
- Destroyers are elites
- Armoured Fist Veterans Troop Choice is a 5 man veteran squad in a centaur

Vet squad can be increased to 10 men and must take a chimera if they do so

Also, all sabre platforms have skyfire and interceptor rules

Yep, autocannon turrets in same price as before

Another thing I've noticed is the manticore can be upgrade with sky eagle rockets - Has Skyfire and heat seaker special rule that allows them to re-roll misses

Ace crew skills are gone.

The armoured fist veteran squad is identical to the codex entry

Haven't really gone through the characters yet, but they appear similar from what I remember. A few tweaks to bring them in line with the new special rules (ie Grizmunds Leman Russ comes with artificer hull for a bonus hull point)

The ammo are pure upgrades for the armoured company list only and are only available to "character" tanks and not line tanks (basically, the HQ and commissar tanks only). No other special vanquisher ammo

Oh and engineseers are characters that come with a Trojan transporter. Can take up to 5 servitors (pretty much the codex entry)

Valdor is similar, it gets ordnance d3 and the concussive special rule

A few of the super heavies have been changed slightly, some of their weapons have been tweaked to make use of usr's.

The orders are vehicle only (armoured fist hq can issue codex orders. The vehicle orders are concentrated fire (re-roll bonuses), erratic manoeuvres (harder to hit) and full speed ahead.

Just spotted that the heavy support heavy weapon teams can take flakk missiles.

The only difference I can tell about the Tauros squadron from IAA 2nd edition is that they removed the option to take a Homing Beacon and added Hull Points to the entry (2).

The Centaur and Tauros are both only 2HP and the Centaur now takes a Fast Attack slot instead of being a transport option for non DKoK armies.

Is the hydra the same as ever? I was hoping for interceptor, with a price hike to compensate.
No sky fire. But it does have an auto targeting rule: ignores cover save or bonuses for supersonic or jink rules.




About Hades
I was expecting *some* changes, but expect their presence on tables to be pretty much extirpated by this book, their chance of mishap when used against vehicles ranged from just over 50% against AV10 targets to over 70% against AV14 targets and suffer a -2 on mishap charts now and take their follow-up infantry unit
(now a watered down Vets unit that's an Elites choice not a Troop) with them if they mishap.



Its also now S8 instead of S10, but still AP1 and Melta, but now its only a 3" small blast too.

It gained a 4+ invulnerable save against damage inflicted while its making a ram attack, though.

The last cost for the drill was 50 points on its own. A base vet squad cost 70 points.

Now its 100 points for the Drill and 10 guys base.

Sure you can't pimp out the vet squad the way you could before, but the overall cost has gone down for the Drill.

And yes, the rules are for both Krieg and standard codex IG forces (they have a description for both army lists). 





They likewise for some reason decided the Centaur needed to take a Fast Attack slot, and that the Coaxial rule for Vanquisher heavy stubbers was just too good, and removed the "accurate bombardment" rule from Heavy Mortars. LR Conquerors are back to S7 AP4 small blast guns. Hydra Platforms lots Interceptor and got nerfed from being T7 3+sv W2 artillery units to AV10 HP2 immobile vehicle units.

Aside from Trojans and Atlas's getting a minor irrelevant special rule each and the Rapier Laser Destroyer going from awful-to-almost-mediocre, everything largely stayed the same or got worse. I'm rather suprised given the size, cost, and scale of the book.

Imperial Navy Air Support (1 of either a thunderbolt, lightning or avenger)


Some of the list upgrades and rules are tasty:
Co-axial weapon for vanquisher only available as an upgrade in the armoured company list
New Armoured Company Orders
New Upgrades (inc a mine plough for aggressive tank shocks and artificer hull which grants an extra hull point!)
Special Ammo:
The standard Leman Russ can upgrade to the infernus shell which amongst other things gives ignore cover rule
Augur shells upgrade for conqueror - gives get's hot and cratering special rules (cratering - a 4+ chance on each glance or pen of permanently reducing targets hit facing armour value)
Vanquishers get beast hunter shells - grants Instant Death special rule
Includes new Warlord Traits for armoured battle group

Марк занимал пост СЕО более 5 лет, недавно на сайте  GW было опубликовано заявление об его уходе. Основная причина - дублирование функций с директором, Томом Кирби.
Собственно, никаких изменений для 40к это не принесет.

Tau receive a flyer and data sheet for it. Fast attack choice. Armor 11 all around. Non tau pilot. Looks like a manta ray flying backwards. Bs 4 super sonic. S6 ap4 missiles. Off center gun heavy 6 str 5 ap 4 twin linked or single small blast Str 8 ap 2.


Eldar flyer and data sheet for it. Very similar stats to dark eldar flyer has missile lock, has distortion missiles.smaller fighter looks like elongated vyper.


The harpy for tyranids. Nothing to note. Not a dual kit.
The final surprise. A fourth flyer. The long awaited dark eldar bomber.

True Dark Angels rumors - part 2

chapter standard is all units within 12 get to reroll all morale and pinning checks and +1a to his unit
then the lesser ones have those rules split up.
ravenwing lets them autopass hit and run and roll an extra d6 for distance.
Company standard is 12" rerollorale & pinning.
Deathwing one is 6" +1a to all inner circle.

Then theres the daddy standards. one per army.
All have the 12" morale pinning rule then either;
All units in 12 get counter attack or
all in 12 get fnp or
all boltguns in 6 get salvo 2/4

Edit salvo effect is only within 6"


The Salvo Standard only affects boltguns? Or storm bolters as well?

just boltguns and yeah no other specials im afraid

no sorry i wasnt sure at that point who got to deepstrike but it was just belial, azrael has artificer armor and a 4++ that spreads to his unit

Does Belial get the Str 10 AP low attack as well 1/game?
nope thats only maces of absolution on the dw knights

Chizal, do Company Masters affect the FOC by taking TDA or a Bike? Do they just unlock a command squad from the respectively taken wargear?
only the grand master special characters effect the foc

Company masters cannot even take a bike.

Mind Worm looks amazing...or really bad. One of those.

If you can get a wound on something with the Str4 AP2 then it gives -3 WS, BS, I and Ld for the rest of the game.

assault d3 Focused Witchfire.

Any HQ with terminator armour can have a DW command squad.
HQs on bikes can have RW command squads.

As usual they do not take up a HQ slot, you can have multiple command squads.

Belial has Iron Halo in the bestiary but not in the army list.
Missile Lock does nothing?
I have found about 5 typo/errors so far...

Ezekiel looks legit. Models near him get +1WS and he has the de-buff which may be nice on big stuff. He's mastery 3 so you still get 2 more powers too.


  Deathwing Command Squads and Command squads both can.

I assume Ravenwing Command Squads are supposed to be able to as they say the model can take items from the "Relic Banners section" of the wargear list.
Only there is no relic banners section its called "Sacred standards" and is correctly named in the other two command squad entries.

All can take Revered Standards (Grant Crusader) and respective company banners.
Only the Command Squad can take the chapter banner.

the dark shroud may only be hp 2 but it does have jink, stealth and shrouded so could survive a while

Darkshrouds grant stealth but do not have it themselves in the "bestiary" but stealth is listed in their rules in the army list. 

Conversion fields are 4+ Inv. At the end of any phase where a save was made nearby units test for blind.
Displacer 3++, at the end of the phase scatter D6"
Power fields give models within 3" a 4++

Monster slayer is a power weapon, roll D6: 2-4 +1STR, 5-6 +2STR and Instant Death.

There is a combi plasma with Assault1 Blast plasma part and an assault 3, AP4 storm Bolter there too.
I like the Mace of Redemption. Str+3, AP3, Blind, concussive, AP2 vs C:CSM.
There is also an item for FnP and shrouded.

Really like "Stasis Anomaly". RW Grenade launcher gives -1 WS and Init to a UNIT hit.

Initiative is everything and RW can just win at it!

Flakk is 10 points on tac, scout, veteran and dev Missile Launchers. You do not lose frag & Krak.

No flakk for CMLs.

Mostly HQs, they are "Chapter Relics" and "Special Issue Wargear" in the wargear list.

Also it has Infravisor which grants night fight but a blind penalty and a "Porta-rack" which lets you torture info out of enemy characters!
The rack is awesome, once you torture info out of an enemy character, you gain preffered enemy, fear and can use their teleport homers and locator beacons as if they were your own!

Are there limits to the LS variants you can take with an attack squadron?
Can you take a "support squadron" of landspeeders and are there limitations on variants?
 
No, 1-5 LS and any can be upgraded to typhoon or tornado. New tornado options too, double multimelta now available.
 
Saw earlier that you can get 1 RWGL per 3 bikes. If you get 6, you can have 2 GL. Do the effects stack? How long do they last?
Effects do not stack and the stasis bomb effect overwrites this one.
They are 1in 3 but they are free!
RW Command squads can have one. 
How long are the effects?
Till end of turn.

Still I like, shoot on the way in, Black Knights charge and vs marines strike first and hit on 3+ then have +1 STR rending weapons.
Loads of themes and synergy. DA are looking like they have a strong "debuff" theme. 
If inner circle grants Hatred (CSM) what do Chaplains/Interrogator Chaplains do?
Zealot .  
is zealot just litanies of hate or something different?
USR for hatred and fearless, basically no change. 

Blade of Caliban for champ. Nerfed power axe.
Sgt can upgrade to "Power Weapon" so can be a sword.
Thats all.

All HQs can have bikes except company masters and named characters.
There are no additional options for the bikes to make them plasma talons or anything. 
is belials sword of silence the same or new stats?
Fleshbane! AP3
Master Crafted, WS6 and Fleshbane means the SoS is a real option now. He has a special rule for shooting too (Though only a storm bolter) so you kind of waste that with the TLC and TH&SS options.


We know Ravensword is AP2

Asmodai has Blades of reason again!
Str as user, AP- Instant death, Specialist weapon. 

belial S4, T4, I5, 3W, 3A. that all about right? 
, only stat change is +1 WS on Belial

Azrael got FnP (6+)! hehe. 215 points
His plasma gun also has Blind USR.

All Landspeeders have Deep Strike too. 

One librarian (And Ezekiel) but 2 Chaplains. Regular and interrogator. Normal chappy cannot have terminator armour.
Interrogator has unchanged stats from last codex.

Sammael is the only master of a company with bikes I guess... All other HQs have access to bikes.

Inner Circle is on lots of models. A lot of HQs and Deathwing at least.
Sammael   - 200 points

Black Knights have corvus hammer standard. the Huntsmaster can have a power weapon. 
RW Attack Squadron is almost identical to last codex. More Tornado options, can have typhoon, Pay for the MM upgrade on AB, The Squad with 2x Melts, AB with MultiMelta and Sgt with combi-melta is possible at 165points.
Has Hit & Run and Sgts and Vet Sgts can take combi weapons and things like Lightning claw, TH and stuff.  
The RW banner means you auto win the init roll to hit & run too.
That has real game.  

Can DA Techmarines fortify terrain?
Yes

Are there any traits or wargear items that distinguish them from Techmarines in other Chapters?
Grim Resolve, all Special Issue Wargear allowed (Except Jump Pack).


does belial come with warlord trait of his own or do you roll on the DA or rule book table?
Belial (And Asmodai and Ezekiel) has "The Hunt" which is about the worst warlord trait I've seen. Its a small chance of +1 VP.
Sammael has rapid manoeuvres and Azrael can choose from the DA table.

my bad forgot to mention that deathwing vehicle also gives it PE c;csm
also i think the halberd upgrade is just for the dw knight champion as its str+2 ap2 melee.bane.2 handed 

normal mode str+2 ap4 melee,bane,concussive
smite mode str+6 ap2 melee,bane,cuncussive, one use only

Yep its called the armory of the rock. also small tidbit is all missle launchers can be upgraded to flak apart fron the whirlwind which got screwed. also dev squad are super cheap. 5man squad with 4 multi meltas 110pts lol

Are the fixed numbers 5-man for Deathwing and 3-man for Ravenwing?

Black sword missiles S6 AP4? It wasnt the megabolter with these stats?
both have those stats. bolter r48 missles r36 also rhe fighter has missle lock spacial rule i. the army list but has no blast missle. some silly mistake as it makes no sense we hope

What about the price of Belial with TH/SS combo?
And how much the land raider cost? Ooh and is there something special about the land raiders if you want to take them als dedicated transport for deathwing?

Tyranids and Eldar rumors



Эльдары планируются на 4-ый квартал 2013 года, возможно на квартал раньше или позже. Это будет полноценный кодекс, раньше будут анонсированы новые юниты в WD. Кодекс тиранидов будет издан до или после эльдар. Перед изданием кодекса в WD появится анонс и правила на новый ФМЧ нидов, это будет антитех\антифлайер, в одной коробке с гарпией.


Синапс будет полностью изменен. Фаэлит пишет, что вернут этернал варьор, но это не так. Не следует этому верить.


Другие релизы: пластиковый прайм, апгрейд для шрайка, и новый монстр, который сможет инфильтроваться и будет иметь похожие правила на горгону из ФБ.


Потом будут изданы киты из которых можно будет собрать варьоров, заонтропов и ликторов, другой из которого можно будет сделать веномтропов или равенеров, другой - биоворы\пироворы, последний - тиран гард\хайв гард.


Файнкаст перейдет с изменениями в пластик, часть будет объединена в один набор.

Q4 2013 40k goes to Eldar supposedly, so will be early/late Q4 2013/Q1 2014. May be Q3 2013. Not entirely sure. There will be a codex release and there may be a WD/model release earlier. That would push the codex back though.




Kit released for harpy that will make a second FMC - current playtest name hydra. Harpy will remain anti-infantry, hydra to be anti flyer/vehicle.

Synapse will go back to giving eternal warrior - and instinctive behavior will be radically changed.

For other new kits - nothing major. Prime plastic kit, shrike upgrade pack, and lastly, a new MC that is built off of infiltrating and will have a snacking rule similar to the fantasy ghorgon.




next two Rumors should be taken with even more salt then normal - there will be multiple large plastic kit that is a multiple option kit that can make warriors/zoanthropes/lictors, one that can make venomthropes/raveners, and one that will make biovores/pyrovores and one for tyrant guard/hive guard. The finecast models are getting changed up a bit - will move to plastic. Also, some of these kits may be condensed into one box. Secondly - Ward is writing the dex. Extra salt here folks - extra salt.
